Can I convert a scanned bank statement PDF to Excel?

Not with Satr: it reads text PDFs only and has no OCR, so a scan or a photo gives a clear message that no text was found instead of guessed numbers. If your statement is a scan, ask the bank for a text PDF or a CSV export, or use an OCR tool and check every number.

How to tell the difference

Open the PDF and try to select a line of text with the mouse. If you can highlight words and numbers, it is a text PDF and Satr can read it. If the whole page highlights as one picture, it is a scan.

Better options than OCR

Download the statement again from internet or mobile banking, which usually gives a text PDF. Ask the bank for a CSV, Excel or QBO export. These avoid the recognition errors that OCR can introduce into amounts.

If you must use OCR

Run an OCR tool first so the PDF gets a text layer; opening that file in Satr may work, but we have not tested it. Always compare every amount with the original, because OCR can confuse digits.

Questions

Why does Satr say no text was found?

The PDF is made of images. Satr does not guess at them.

Does a photo of a statement work?

No. Photos and image-only PDFs are not supported.

Will Satr add OCR later?

We do not promise it. Today the product is text PDFs only.
